After that first trip, Karen just had to find out more about the Hollow’s past and thus started her 6 year journey researching wonderful, old news articles and discovering some fascinating stories about the history of Dead Man’s Hollow from local residents who lived or worked there many decades ago.
Very few people remain who can share firsthand experiences of life in Dead Man’s Hollow, and since it has become a popular destination along the renowned Youghiogheny River Trail, she thought it important to record this oral history.
Some of the uncovered stories include the “Funeral of George Woods”, “An Immense Blast”, “The Monster Snake” and “Outlaws Put Up Fatal Fight”, are just a few of the interesting reads in Karen’s first self-published book.
