Carpenter bees can bee a devastating pest akin to termites. One bee can ruin the exterior wood on a house in just one season. This is a quick, economical way to control them.
This Carpenter bee catch uses plastic bottles as opposed to glass jars. Any standard plastic bottle will fit. When the bottle is full you just cap it off an toss in the trash. Grab another bottle and screw it in. This is a great way to recycle all those plastic bottles that you'd normally just dump in the trash. This at least gives them a second use. Which is what recycling is all about.
The catch itself is made of untreated whitewood because carpenter bees love this type of wood.
HOW IT WORKS: The carpenter bees crawl through the side hole and into the center hole. The entrance holes are drilled at a specific angle to limit the amount of light coming into the center hole. The greatest light visible to the bee is coming up through the clear plastic bottle. This causes the bee to crawl inside the bottle. Once inside the bottle the insect will emit a pheromone that attracts other bees. Since there are no aeration holes in the bottle the smell emanates back up to the entrance holes which will attract more of these pests to come visit. They’ll all be trapped inside the bottle.
