Some six years ago a suburban housewife attended a cocktail party.  Perhaps the last thing she was looking for at that time was the idea for a book.  She had just finished one.  Her first.  It had taken her five years to write.  Five years of working telve hours a day.  Five years without a vacation.

But at that party she met a young scientist who had been involved in the pioneering search for wonder drugs.  She listened, spellbound, as he recounted some of the drama, the conflicts, the heartbreak, the thrill of discovery during those post-war years when a few men in a few laboratories began the search for broad spectrum wonder drugs.

"Those were exciting days," he said.  "That was a story!  And it has never been told."

Mildred Savage decided to tell it.

Condition:  Used.  Hardcover.  No Dust cover.  Pages are tanned and darkening from age.  Previous owner's name and date are written on the front endpaper.  There's an index card and holder pasted to the front endpaper as a way for her to keep track of her books.  The binding is splitting between the covers and endpapers.  There are scribbles on the bottom pages edges that can be seen when the book is closed.  Pages seem to be in tact.
