It all begins innocently eough.  Detective-Inspector Ben Jurnet's fiancee, Miriam, managers to do the impossible -- get tickets for the Second Coming Concert in Angleby -- a concert that was sold out the moment tickets went on sale.  Jurnet is less than thrilled, but agrees to attend, if only to see why there is such a fuss about the rock trio.  He is therefore more surprised than anyone when he finds the concert extremely moving.  He is still struggling with his conflicting emotions when he receives a call early the next morning:  Loy Tanner, the enigmatic lead singer of Second Coming, has been found murdered and tied to a cross in the middle of Angleby Merket Place.

And so Jurnet is thrust into the deceptively glamorous world of the music industry.  But if Loy Tanner was enigmatic in life, he is even more elusive in death; Jurnet's interviews with Loy's remarkable mother, Second Coming's two other musicians, and the assorted roadies, groupies, and agents who buzz around the band bring him no closer to an understanding of the dead singer than they do to the identity of his murderer.

Then there is another murder, and heroin makes its unwelcome appearance -- but is there any connection to Loy's death?  Jurnet patiently sifts through the clues, certain he is close to a discovery, but answers to the puzzle remain tantalizingly out of reach.  It is only after he has taken a startingly personal approach to the case and unearthed some astonishing truths about Loy's past that he is at last able to discover the murderer's identity in the brilliant addition to S. T. Haymon's series of Ben Jurnet novels, which has been acclaimed for its wit, elegance, inventiveness, and emotional power.
