This unique vase has FINGERPRINTS fired forever into the glaze where it was cradled within the fingers of both hands while the glaze had been applied and before it fully dried. (The fingerprints naturally have NOT been forensically examined – but it is highly probable they belong to Victoria since she is the artist that created this piece).
Also incised under her artistic signature are the initials Mc which may indicate her days working as a studio assistant for Tom McMillin from 1962 through 1964.
Victoria attended the University of Southern California ( USC ) from 1958 thru 1962 earning her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Fine Arts for Ceramics and Secondary Teaching. She studied pottery with artists Carlton Ball, Susan H Petersen, Peter Voulkos, and Marguerite Wildenhain. She worked as a studio assistant for Tom McMillin from 1962 through 1964. In 1964 she opened her own studio. Her signature on this piece compares to her early works and it pre-dates the signature she used on her studio works or works of later years.
This measures approximately 12 1/2 inches from top to bottom, by about 5 1/8 inches from side to side ( front to back ). The top flares open to approximately 2 3/8 inches with center opening ( middle hole ) measuring approximately 1/4 inch. Body incised and glazed in various rustic hues of sage green, brown, bluish gray and gold emphasizing design. Smooth neck. Very Lovely!
