WILD GARLIC
Bulblets
--Bulblets are the small Bulbs that grow above ground at the top of the shoot and are able to produce a new plant. You can think of them as garlic " seeds " .
(This is a multiple listing. I am offering 10 sets of 10 bulblets. You can purchase 1 set or up to all 10 sets. I am happy to combine purchases where possible to help save you on shipping).
There is a bulblet seen apart from the bulblet clusters towards the upper right in the SECOND picture. (This year's first batch are not the lavender color I have pictured of last year's 2nd batch -- the outer layer tends to be brown or tan this year -- a variance with this year's season), You will be getting 10 Wild Garlic bulblets that will produce 10 Wild Garlic plants for you that can multiply into a nice Wild Garlic patch. They grow care-free for us. What you are buying is NOT 10 clusters of Bulblets, NOT garlic heads and NOT cloves of garlic -- but 10 Wild Garlic bulblets (I don't want to confuse anyone by my pictures as I've included pictures of where they come from and the heads and cloves they grow into).
I read Wild Garlic is classified as a "weed" online! In our home we love our Wild Garlic and think of them as little treasures we use in our cooking -- certainly not weeds! But it is true -- we don't have to mess with them or give them any special attention here. We don't even water them much unless it's cooking HOT outside -- nature takes care of them otherwise.
These are coming from USDA Hardiness Zone 5B. My sister who lives in Zone 6A has never been able to get any of these to come up for her -- but her area is so desert dry most of the time that it's probably a very good guess that these need some moisture to survive. If you can grow bulbs in your area you can probably grow these fine! Since the little bulblets just naturally fall to the ground and do there thing here, I'm thinking one really doesn't have to plant them too deep.
They begin to grow when the spring and fall rains come during that cooler time and lie dormant during the heat of the summer and cold of winter -- but you can leave the bulbs in the ground and harvest them as you need all year through once you get your patch established. That's what I do. I would suggest an area prepared for them, as they will spread in the area they are in just as all bulb plants I've run across do.
Unfortunately I didn't photograph the plants while growing and mine are now in the dormant stage as it is very hot here. These Wild Garlic do not have the real thick leaves like the ones I see photographed online that are said to be grow wild in Scotland or the United Kingdom. Instead these will start growing early in the season and appear like grass growing. You will see some photos online with the thinner plants that look similar to long healthy grass growing-- that is how these look.
These will grow into smaller garlic heads than you find in the grocery store. I've included a picture of the garlic heads -- which is what these will turn into growing underground -- and a picture of some peeled garlic cloves (you peel these just like you do store bought garlic) that I prepared for cooking.
The flavor and aroma of FRESH Wild Garlic is YUMMMMMMMMM!!! I like to harvest the ones that are mature enough to get the bulblet clusters on top as the garlic head underground will be mature and there will be more cloves, but younger ones can be used as well, they will just be single, double or smaller heads. You will want to develop your bed so you always have stock! Don't eat them all right away once they get growing -- let some MULTIPLY and you will be rewarded by them! We Love Them!!!! Limited to this offering -- gotta keep our own patch up!
Caution -- these "weeds" are POPULAR!!! If anyone finds out you have a patch -- be prepared to share. Once your friends, relatives, and neighbors learn you have a patch they will be wanting some of yours to start themselves a patch! . . . . Shhhhhhhh . . . ."quiet" is the word! At least until you have slightly more than your needs require. :)
