Luther Haden "Dummy" Taylor was a deaf-mute MLB pitcher who played during the first decade of the 20th century. Taylor was considered a role model as one of the first deaf players in the major leagues. Taylor's best season was 1904 when he won 21 games and had an ERA of just 2.34. He finished his career with 116 wins and an ERA of 2.75. In addition to having a strong arm, Taylor was know for having a terrific sense of humor. The novel, Havana Heat, published in 2000, was about Dummy Taylor.
