SOY BEANS
(Glycine Max)
Each lot contains 25 Seeds
Soy beans are native to East Asia where they have been used for over 5,000 years. They are a food source as well as an oil crop. Soy beans are also used in crop rotation. By adding nitrogen to the soil, they improve it. Soybeans are also a relatively inexpensive source of protein for feeding livestock. They are used to make soy sauce, soy milk, soy flour and tofu. Soy beans are an important source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and isoflavones. They contain phyto-estrogens (plant estrogens) that may or may not be instrumental in cancer prevention. Soy is also linked to heart health and improved memory. This variety is an early producer with green beans that are great steamed and boiled or dried. It is an ideal choice for the novice grower and the green-thumbed alike.
Growing Information:
Soybeans are easy to grow and can be started in most good garden soils. Sow your seeds outdoors in the spring after the last frost. A planting depth of 1” is recommended. Sow your seeds a few inches apart in rows that are 1.5-2 feet apart. Additional support is usually only necessary in very fertile soils where growth can become a bit rampant. Keep moderately watered. Harvest typically occurs in 75 days when the beans have enlarged in the pods. For dried seeds, you can allow them to dry in the pods on the plant.
