This model train car is a copy of a prototype boxcar used by
the Brothers Bing factory in Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany.
This Bavarian K.Bay.Sts.B. boxcar was discontinued by Minitrix in 1999.

In 1863, Ignaz and Adolf Bing founded Gebruder Bing in Nuremberg, Germany
as a tin and kitchenware manufacturer.
They began toy production in 1880 and by the early 20th century, Bing was the
largest toy company in the world. Although Bing produced many toys, it is best
remembered for toy trains and mechanical bears. In addition to toys, it made a
large range of kitchenware, office equipment and electrical goods.
Antique Bing toy trains and mechanical bears usually command outrageously
high prices today at prestigious auction houses.
By 1914, Bing had 5,000 employees. Bing’s competitor, Marklin employed 600.
Bing manufactured items for export worldwide under the Bing name and items
for others to sell under other brand names.
World War I had a devastating effect on Bing and forced Bing out of the export
market at its peak. By 1921, Bing had re-established itself in the U.S. market,
through catalog sales at Sears, Roebuck and Co. However, Lionel was also
selling at Sears, and Bing quickly found itself squeezed out of the market. Bing
compensated by increasing its presence in Canada where, with mixed success,
it competed with American Flyer.
The Depression took its toll on Bing and other toy manufacturers. By 1932, Bing
was in liquidation, and it went out of business in 1933.
With the rise of Hitler, Stephan Bing, the former president of Bing, fled to England
and helped to start Trix. Other former Bing executives started the similarly named
company Trix Express in Germany.
