Fenton SILVERCREST CONSOLE SET
w/RARE Silver Ribbon or Deco Look
CIRCA Unknown but Probably before 1941
There is no known record of these being made as you see them in the picture, however we do know that the candle holders were made for Jay Willfred Company before 1941 in Ruby Silvercrest. That is documented. Also the candle holders mold was destroyed and melted down for the war effort during WW2 though later Fenton re-made this style however then could not or did not duplicate the ribbed sides as shown in this. So all speculation is that this set was probably made before 1941 or before that mold was destroyed.
We have here the bowl and two candle stick holders. The bowl is about maybe 10-1/2 inches though it varies to where you measure it from and is about 4-1/8 inches tall. Notice the inside of the bowl which is very typical of early bowls that were made. Later bowls in the 1950s and such were made with no indentation for easier cleaning.
The candle holders are about 6-1/2 inches tall and about 5 inches wide--4-5/8 inches deep. There is a slight variance in overall width and depth between the two.
There are no chips, cracks or repairs on any of the 3 pieces, however, I do note imperfections in the glass. I do see some bubbles but more important I do see dirt from the original furnace imbedded in the glass in several areas. I am showing one picture close up of this where it is the worse. But these flaws are well overlooked by serious collectors who have never seen a piece of either of these, and who may never ever see a piece of these again. I also note that the candlesticks rock as they are not even to the ground. You can see on the picture with the feet only, there is a gap in front that has caused this. Again, quality control was not that good back when these were made and this is very much expected.
None the less with the flaws in this set, this is a great item to have and to own. They have been in my private collection for many wonderful years and now we are sizing down to make our house ready for sale and to move into a retirement home. Otherwise, they would not be for sale at all.
