Stipa Robusta
(Sleepy Grass /Feather Grass)
10 Seeds
Stipa robusta is a perennial grass common to the Southwestern U.S. Stipa Robusta is quite frequently infected with acremonium fungus. This fungus contains compounds that can cause drowsiness and stupor in grazing horses, which has led to the nickname “sleepy grass”. Aside from this name, species in the genus stipa are commonly known as “feather grass”, and they are grown ornamentally for landscaping purposes. The soft, feathery tops of this grass usually contain about 60 seeds on average and can be used in dried flower arrangements. Seeds of this particular species can be rather difficult to locate. Our stock is harvested from the wild in New Mexico. We are proud to offer them in limited supply while supplies last. Keep away from curious pets or livestock. Each lot contains 2 grams, which is about 100+ seeds on average.
Growing Information:
Stipa seeds need light to germinate and should be surface sowed. They have a tendency to germinate erratically and can take up to 3 months to germinate.
