What others are Saying:

Taking from Hollywood Autograph News:
"Former President Jimmy Carter is often billed as “the fastest book-signer alive” by bookstores around the country. It’s true. I’ve gone to several Carter book-signings and he can blow through a stack of hardbacks like you couldn’t believe. I’ve heard he signs about 1,000-1,500 books per hour – which is pretty darn fast. Most authors can sign about 300-500 books an hour, depending on how much they stop to chit-chat with fans and pose for photos.
Carter has fine-tuned the expediency of his signings over the years. The store’s staff open the books and push them past him as he bangs out signature after signature. The customers are filed past his table quickly. Carter barely makes eye-contact. You can’t shake his hand. You don’t get any photos with him. He may say “thank you for coming” or something trivial like that to you. Perhaps, he’ll briefly respond to a customer’s mindless question as they’re hustled past the table and out of the store. The truth is, the event is very impersonal. Still – you’re meeting a former President of the United States and that’s pretty cool.
There is a slight problem though for bibliophiles. It’s much more valuable to have a President write his FULL name in a book. Basically, it’s become more and more difficult to get the full “Jimmy Carter” autograph. Carter likes to simply write: “JCarter” – which apparently speeds up the line by four letters per customer. Years ago, you could ask Carter: “Sir, could I please have the full signature?” He would stop, look up at you somewhat annoyed – but sign your books with the full signature. Nowadays though, Carter will most likely ignore your request. “Here’s your damn signature! Now stop being a pest and get the hell out of the store!” Those are my words – not Carters. He’s probably thinking that though."

King Grapher says:
"The value is in the enjoyment! Sadly, Carter isn’t worth a lot. He has autographed a LOT of books. Some resellers will tell you they “can’t give Jimmy Carter’s signed books away.” Still – let’s not forget he is a former President. When he dies (he’s in his 80s now) – the books will increase in value to some degree. Carter was a one term President though – and his legacy seems to be more about what he’s done with his time during his post-Presidency years. He’s not one of the more valuable Presidential signatures, such as JFK or Reagan. A lot also depends on what book you have signed. You don’t mention that. Carter has published many books. His biographies are his most valuable. His 1st Presidential Memoir:”Keeping Faith” being the most collectible: Also collectible: His Nobel Peace Prize speech. It’s a small book. Most unsold copies were remaindered by the publisher. So, autographed copies that were not remaindered are fairly uncommon. Realistic prices? $40-$250 for Carter. $250 on the high end. He’s a tough sale. “J Carter” not as popular or valuable as the full signature as well. Again though, he’s a former President. Still, very cool. Hand it down to the children in your family"
