This a beautiful 24 k Gold original Newari Thangka Painting from Nepal that I got on my recent trip.
The Newari are a small community of artists in Nepal with a special style know for its brilliant color and intricate detail.
The painting portrays the fierce deity Kali with vivid colors and an amazing 3d effect.
Kali is a woman, A goddes, but one of the most horrifying kind. She uses poisonous snakes on her enemies. However she is not considered someone to be feared depending on the viewpoint taken. Often denoted and the consort of Shiva in this painting she is alone waging vengeance on her enemies. Kali is referred to the as the " Black One" "The Time" "Death". However recent devotional movements regard her and the Mother Goddess which reflects the belief that wrathful deities can be ones ally as well when ones heart and practice of is of the right mind.
I have only touched with information on the goddess of Kali and encourage one to study further to learn more.
