WE SOLD THIS - important oil on canvas painting by Rosemarie Hahn titled "Caves of Luray." The painting measures 36 inches wide and 26 inches tall. The frame is 39 x 29 inches. Painting does have a very small repaired tear (less than size of a dime), near top edge. Otherwise excellent condition. The fine wooden frame has only minor scuffs.
Rosemarie Hahn was a painter and etcher of landscapes and architectural themes. She was born in Halle/Saale, Germany in 1921 and came to the United States in 1950 with her husband, Dr. Fred E. Hahn, settling in Bethesda, Maryland where she still lives. She is 94 years of age as of January 2015.
In 1962, she joined Oskar Kokoschka's "School of Vision" in Salzburg. From 1968-1970 she attended the Corcoran School of Art, Washington, D.C. and studied graphics. She also studied etching and aquatint under Friedrich Meckseper 1982.
Rosemarie Hahn is mentioned in a New York Art Review Book, "1988 Leading Artist's" and is represented by numerous American and European Museums and private collections. She ca be found listed in a number of art reference and price guides.
This painting was executed about 1978 and has been described by several dealers and critics as "her masterpiece." It will be accompanied by a letter from the artist and Gallery Exhibition catalogue.
