In it the participants, in their own words, tell more than they themselves may be aware of the tragedy, humor, motivations, frustrations, hopes and fears of their lives.

Emergency is a superb documentary novel which, like W. C. Heinz's earlier novels The Professional and The Surgeon is certain to become one of the classics of its genre.
