Born in Lyons in 1813 Meissonier first exhibited at "The Salon" in 1935 and was a regualr exhibitor throughtout the 1840s and 50s. He was best known for his Military Art and was considered perhaps one of the greatest military painters France ahd ever seen. he passed in 1891.
