Synopsis: The novel, and it's title, were inspired by the University of Tennessee Body Farm which is used in the study of forensic anthropology, in particular the study of human decomposition that occurs after death. In rural North Carolina, the brutal murder of eleven-year-old Emily Steiner has shaken a small town. But more disturbing are the details of the crimes, chillingly reminiscent of the handiwork of a serial killer who has eluded the unit for years. Into this volatile atmosphere comes Scarpetta's ingenious, rebellious niece Lucy, an FBI intern with a promising future in Quantico's computer engineering facility - until she is accused of a shocking security violation. While coming to terms with Lucy, Kay must conduct a grisly forensic investigation at a clandestine research facility in Tennessee known as the Body Farm. The story is set around Lake Tomahawk in Black Mountain, North Carolina. The original Body Farm is the University of Tennessee Forensic Anthropology Facility located a few miles south of Knoxville, Tennessee, behind the University of Tennessee Medical Center. The facility was founded by anthropologist Dr. William M. Bass in 1971, after he found that no such facilities existed that specifically studied decomposition.

This book was published in 1995. I am not a professional book grader but I would consider this book to be in acceptable condition. The cover is intact as are all the pages with the exception of the first inside cover page. The cover does have a curl on the lower right hand corner, there are several creases in the spine, and the edges are bumped. I would consider this to be a good reading copy and great as a filler for any Patricia Cornwell collection. This book comes from a non-smoking environment and has been stored in an archival box. It will be bagged and wrapped in cardboard when shipped.
