The inside title page says with a chapter on “What the basket means to the Indian,” by Neltje Blanchan.
The title page says Doubleday, Page & Company, 1919. The book has 194 pages.
This book is on the smaller side. The book has many black and white photos, and drawings. The photographs are very clear, and are of excellent quality.
This book seems to contain a lot of valuable information on baskets and basketry. It covers how to make many types of baskets. It has close up illustrations of the different weaving techniques.
There is also a section on how to cane chairs. There is a section called ‘Some Indian Stitches’ that is before the section called “What the basket means to the Indian."
Please note that this book is a vintage book, and does have wear to it, beffiting it's age.
There are worn areas and some pressure marks on the book cover. There are areas where the cloth on the book cover has worn down and the board underneath is visible, on the corners and the top and bottom of the spine.
All of the corners are bumped, most noticeably the right hand bottom corner which is bumped and ripped back.
There is some light staining and scratching on the book cover.
The pages of the book seem to all have a light discoloration to them, with some foxing. There are some pages near the front of the book that have more foxing. This is visible in the photo showing the inside title page.
All of the outside edges of the book pages are discolored. They have a brown color to them.
Some of the pages are slightly rippled at the bottom corners. There are a few pages near the end of the book where the top of the page was bent back, so there is a fold mark in that page.
There are no loose pages and the spine is tight.
Although this book is not in perfect condition, it is still perfectly readable and would make a great gift for a vintage basket lover.
This book seems to have been republished over the years, as it is available in paperback on Amazon, as well as in a Kindle edition. I am sure some folks would prefer a modern or a digital copy rather than an older book.
