This listing is for a vintage hardcover book, entitled Button Parade. The book was written by Dorothy Foster Brown. The title page says: ‘The New, Enlarged and Revised Button Parade A Book of Button Groupings Drawn and Described by Dorothy Foster Brown.’ Another page is titled ‘Preface to the 4th edition.’ Therefore this book is the fourth edition. The copyright of this book is listed in the book as being 1942, and 1968. The book has 270 pages. This book has a lot of excellent quality black and white illustrations. There are no photographs in this book.
The inside page of the book says, ‘In 1942, Dorothy Foster Brown and the Lightner Publishing Company of Chicago, issued the first edition of Button Parade, and for two decades this work was the standard reference for button collectors……Miss Brown has not written a technical book devoted to button composition and manufacturing. Rather, Button Parade looks at buttons from the human side, because they are beautiful, amusing, or from the standpoint of Art, Beauty and "Human Interest."……. Now, after being out of print for several years, Miss Brown has completely revised her original text, many more chapters have been added, and this classic book has been updated for today’s collectors. As it has for the past generations, Button Parade will now become the indispensable reference for button fanciers for decades to come.’ Buttons are classified and grouped by the author in dozens of classifications like: Ships, Cupids, Acorns, Boots, China and Glass, Enamelled buttons, Dragons, Pearl buttons, Heads, Arrows, and many, many other areas.’
Although this book does not look as if it was read, or open much, it does have some flaws. The book has a musty smell to it. There are some spots on the front and back cover of the book. They could be mildew spots, as this book has a musty smell to it. I am not sure if they will wipe off or not. Please take note of this and do not bid if it is a concern. There is some soiling and discolorations to the book cover. The spine of the book cover looks discolored. There are some light scratches on the surface of the book cover. The top back corner of the book is slightly bumped. The top edges of the book pages are discolored. They are a brown color. The inside front page of the book has discolored areas on it.
