On Hold Fancy Tinted Antique Victorian Buckle

This antique Victorian silver-plated metal buckle measures 3" long. The embossed pattern on this buckle is very elaborate and features central paisley decorations which are tinted a transparent magenta. (The central diamond-shaped medallion retains some transparent green color.) There is light overall wear to the finish.

The paisley is an ancient design originating in Persia, travelling to India, and having been transported to Scotland by returning soldiers, then being used by the weavers of Paisley, Scotland on their extremely popular cashmere shawls. (The shawls came to be known as paisley shawls, which were popular through the 19th century.) The paisley pattern was also used as a decorative device on other Victorian items. Today, it is considered a good representation of fractal design and is a recognized pattern worldwide.
