What is a Serigraph?
Serigraphy is a silk-screen printing process in which a stencil is used to mask areas of a fine mesh (at one time, silk; more recently, artificial fabrics); ink is then forced through the unmasked areas of mesh onto paper to make the final image. Each color used in the final image requires the silk-screener to make a separate screen, masked so as to allow only that particular color to print.

Lea Avizedek was born in Jerusalem and currently lives and works in Tel Aviv. She received her formal art training at Bezalel Art Academy in Jerusalem and the school of drawing in Tel Aviv. Her work primarily centers on the female form and is distinguishable by its bright, heavy-bodied color with light pencil sketches.

Lea Avizedek was born in Jerusalem and currently lives and works in Tel Aviv. She received her formal art training at Bezalel Art Academy in Jerusalem and the school of drawing in Tel Aviv. Her work primarily centers on the female form and is distinguishable by its bright, heavy-bodied color with light pencil sketches. Her talent was recognized at an early age. The simple sketches that she drew were compared to the works of post-impressionist Toulouse Lautrec, with their simplicity of few lines and bold and colorful silhouettes. “I try to project women as warm, loving human beings. I don’t care if the women I paint look ugly, if their legs are fat or their socks are half off, … When I work it’s emotional. My life enters on my art.”
