Offered here is a very fine oil on canvas painting entitled "La Chaloupe de Charlevoix" (The Lifeboat at Charlevoix), by Canadian artist Marie Andree Beliveau. Measuring 16 x 20 inches, the painting is signed by the artist in the lower right corner of the work and on the back of the canvas. The artist's gallery label and several inscriptions along the stretcher on back and one dates this work to August 1986. The painting is mounted in a frame measuring 24-3/8 x 28-3/8 inches.
The subject of the painting, an abandoned lifeboat in a landscape, appears to have been painted at the site of what was once the "Saint Joseph-de-la-Rive Shipyard." (although it is just speculation on my part at this time.)
Aside some areas of light damage to the frame the painting, which may show some signs of age, appears to be about perfect.
About the artist: Born in Arthabaska, Quebec 1953. Ms. Beliveau earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Ottowa, then went for further study at University of Montreal and went on to earn a Bachelor of Visual Arts Degree at Laval University. Ms. Beliveau also toured Europe for 4 years at the beginning of her art career. She owns and operates Galerie d'art M-A. Beliveau in Saint-Sauveur Valley, Canada and is represented by galleries in the United States, Europe and Japan.
