You are buying a pre-viewed, ORIGINAL VHS video, The Wrestling Classic.
Coming from suburban Chicago's Rosemont Horizon (now the Allstate Arena) in Rosemont, Illinois, on November 7, 1985, it is the very first event from the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) to be broadcast exclusively on pay-per-view.
Filmed in "WrestleVision" (it doesn't actually mean anything), the event featured that a 16-man single-elimination tournament and a WWF Championship match (something that would become a staple of nearly every WWF pay-per-view to this day). Although no prize money was at stake, the winner of the tournament could get a significant career boost as he would become the man to win the first-ever major tournament in WWF history.
In non-tournament action, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper would continue his ongoing feud with WWF Champion Hulk Hogan, challenging him for the Championship once again. The two have had a rivalry since Piper's arrival in the WWF, and battled back and forth for the Championship, which Piper never was able to win.
The rest of the card featured a 16-man single-elimination tournament, of which the winner could boast of winning the WWF's first major tournament. The brackets for the tournament were as follows:
- Adrian Adonis (with his manager, "The Mouth of the South", Jimmy Hart battles Corporal Kirchner (known in Japan as the masked "Leatherface")
Dynamite Kid (one-half of the British Bulldogs team) faced Soviet Nikolai Volkoff
- "Macho Man" Randy Savage (with his manager, Miss Elizabeth) takes on "Polish Power" Ivan Putski
- In a rare matchup of fan favourites, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat battles the other half of The British Bulldogs, Davey Boy Smith. With Steamboat's high-flying tactics and Smith's power, it's almost like Smith is facing his own partner!
- Perennial fan favourite and master of the "Big Thump" powerslam, Junkyard Dog faces the Iranian former WWF Champion, Iron Sheik
- Moondog Spot battles Terry Funk. With these two both willing to inflict (and receive!) plenty of punishment, this promises to be one of the bloodier matches of the tournament! Plus, Funk has in his corner, manager Jimmy Hart. Will it be enough to counteract the craziness of the Moondogs?
- The next tournament match features Intercontinental Champion Tito Santana against the man he defeated for the title, the Magnificent Muraco! Needless to say, there's no love lost between these two, and Muraco also has in his corner his new manager, Mr. Fuji!
- The final match of the first round pits "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff against "Ace" Cowboy Bob Orton. Orton has 50,000 reasons to eliminate Orndorff from the tournament. Namely, Bobby "The Brain" Hennan's $50,000 bounty on Orndorff.
