Fenton Cranberry Opalescent Hobnail 8-1/2" Basket
Circa 1940's thru the 1960's
First of all, though my basket is measuring a bit more than 8-1/2 inches tall, I believe this was rated as a 7 inch only. But, I measured the width also and it is only 6-1/2 inches one way and 6 inches the other. So I am not sure where this basket would fit in.
The date of manufacturing has to be before the Fenton embossed labels, generally figured at around 1972, though some of the Fenton line in 1970 had the embossed labels, the entire line didn't receive this until around 1972 or so. Now some of these labels were put on the product in 1970, more were added in 1971 but in 1972 the entire Fenton line had these labels.
So because of this, we know it was made probably in the 1950's or 1960's. And, because I know a little bit about glass, because of the darker coloring of the Cranberry glass, I would guess this was made between 1963 and 1969, but this is only a guess. The 1950's glass that was made was really light in coloring. I love the reeded handle on these older pieces. The newer pieces had a twisted glass handle, again, another way of dating this piece back.
There are no chips-cracks or repairs, but keep in mind this has been previously owned and displayed .... It really looks very clean to me however.
